good son is Chicago songwriter and producer Yoo Soo Kim. The name is a play on a Korean word 'guksung
(극성)' that his dad called him when he was a kid. The word, which translates to 'polarity', is a term that's lost in translation. In his case, he was a frequent troublemaker (a disruption/opposite of peace).
Growing up, good son played classical as a child, seethed on punk rock as a teenager, all the while secretly adored pop. His music, as a result, moves from beautifully lush to earnest and raw.
His latest single, 'Go Ahead (Bring It Back)', is an intimate resignation that accepts our current situation, while hanging on to hope.
Lyrics:
Stuck on you when I'm home I can't go out on my own Go ahead, bring it back Tell me what's normal now I heard we're going south Should I be so lucky now? Go ahead, bring it back Go ahead, bring it back Out of my former self Get me out of my shell I wave a fond farewell Go ahead, bring it back Wandered in wilderness Take me away again Take me away again Go ahead, bring it back Go ahead, bring it backLyrics:
