Grown from the dry desert landscape of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rusty Maples capture the spirit of the West with their well-crafted blend of tender lyrics, classic themes and energetic folk Americana-inspired pop songs. When asked what imagery best describes Rusty Maples, Blair Dewane (Vocals) says: “The condition of a ditch digger’s hands.” Strong working class music. Voted “Best Indie Rock Band” by Desert Companion magazine and “Best Live Band of 2013” in the Las Vegas Weekly Readers’ Choice Awards, Rusty Maples has climbed to the forefront of the local music scene since its inception just two years ago. In 2012, Rusty Maples released its second EP, Make Way, drawing comparisons to bands like The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons and Kings of Leon. Originally created by Brothers, Blair (vocals) and Ian Dewane (guitar), Mike Weller (bass) and Max Plenke (drums), Rusty Maples have garnered an organic following throughout Las Vegas and the US. The band recently has been on tour with legendary rocker, Sixto Rodriguez (Oscar winning, Searching for Sugarman) and their third EP, “The Western World” is set to release August 2014, produced by Minus the Bear’s Alex Rose.
Lyrics:Wind dries sleep from our eyes Where the streets were ours Till the street lights dawn With my ears drawn To the city as a whole I hear the earth shake Lets home the clouds break Youve been crossed by a friendly face One too many hardships than your heart can afford Youve been dealt oh the cruelest fate One too many hardships than your heart can afford That sun drags all the thought form our minds Where the streets are paved Over loved ones graves With my ears cold From sleeping on the floor In case the house shakes Ever since the earth quaked Trust me Im flat broke and your pockets are full
Lyrics:Run demands a gun-man, Ive never seen anybody run like you I took you for a mover, a shaker, but never a runner Stiff another bar tab, give yourself a reason to get out of town And never come back, but Im only just talking You lose it for a con-man, Ive never seen anybody fall like that I took you for a moocher, and a taker, but never a lover When so swift your mother was to find another lover once the last ran out Just wait till your daddy gets home, when you know he aint coming I dont really buy that Theres no one here, Ive no one left I pour this heart out for strangers Till the strangest was familiar Im so tired I could die, and Im so sick of driving Still theres highways and highways between us Theres just one person on my mind, like the crack in the windshield Still theres highways and highways between us I dont really buy that (I dont really buy that) Theres no one here, Ive no one left (no one left) I pour this heart out for strangers (strangers) Till the strangest was familiar (lets get familiar)
Lyrics:Monsoon erupts, its not enough to stop working My calluses move up, come on in Replace my heart with rough skin Im all but withered up, hey back to work kid Shiver shed some blood, then come on in Replace your thoughts with rough skin Im in a war for a better life Wasting all day in a handout line Where all I hear is hurry up Even behind a gun, in America Where you work till youre broken, then sift through the wreckage Im gonna work till Im broken, and give in to bullshit Monsoon erupts
Lyrics:You know if you tried, you know if you tried To call me anything other than my name Id love you just the same You know when I cried, you know when I cried It took an ounce of strength you know I didnt have So I just crawled off and I laughed Take off your shoes, your dancing shoes Get off the floor its time to choose Whether not youre coming back Youre a crippled train crawling off the track I need a steady hand in a bloody mess Wake up now Your clocks are so loud Wake up and see Youre no good for me You know if I tried, you know if I tried To call you anything other than your name Youd scream oh my blasphemy
Lyrics:Look what you started, and now youre miles away Without a dollar, without a cent to your name Look what you started so many miles away When I find a way, Im on my way The columns grow lonely without a home to be holding Just a foundation prey to the elements So lets hop the fence, and let loose the events Thatll keep you wondering, is truth worth honoring Or is it less, just a moment of stress And if youre still here Im all ears Who gave the ok to search the car? Who thought to charm them off with a conversation? Did we find a ride home from the bar, or did we finally end up celebrating The western world, and the off-sound thrills A time to wake with a talent to kill While looking into mirrors, or off into space Oh the land I love, has been laid to waste
Lyrics:This dose will lacerate Your eyes wont have a say What was in my drink You mean what was in the bait Corridors will often lead Through soda pop and dirty teeth Go on a take a break Come on and have a seat And honey put your money away This aint like that The next ones on me and the one after that Is a nightcap that well share at the bus top I think they stop running, so weve got a long walk home Sweet heart drink up, weve got a long walk home Sweet heart drink up, yeah weve got a long one With every door thats open late Rosed hips and loosened sway Go on take a break Come on take the bate
Lyrics:You cant convince no one honey to be left alone My cars parked outside your window In case it storms And Ill blame the night on I was only pissed And now biting while Im kissing you is hard to kick And all the siren screamed my whole empires a fake Now youll be crying every summer Since you let your baby walk away And Ill blame the night, hey I was only pissed Now biting while Im kissing you is hard to kick Claw yourself upward honey, and end up alone Or chained to the bottom drowning, but you can call it home This dont feel like home, and weve been here so long
Lyrics:You're up, up, and away But where are you really going to If I Fuck up today and burn the only bridge to be crossed You just might keep me alive I've lost too much blood to be shouting this much, which is why Go by and by, Renee, Hold your boy down, he has plenty left to say Oh you've too much, on your plate And momma you're really going to the thing that we Both used to hate, come on let's burn the only bridge to be crossed You just might keep me alive I've lost too much blood to be shouting this much, which is why Go by and by, Renee Radio down as the enemy invades And this is the devil You're not alone You can't steady your arrow Keep em aimed on the throat And there's only so much that we can take (Come on we'll take it) So many broken boys wishing they could walk away Wishing they could walk it off Oh the cowboys They'll be signing On the mountain tops To Jesus Oh the cowboys They'll be singing On your mountain tops To Jesus Don't hate yourself Your mind's not ready Your feet on fire You guilt a real live wire Don't you mind your health You just keep on smoking Under rivers so wide With your lips on fire And the cowboys (i know it's getting dark) They'll be signing (hold hands, it's getting hard) On the mountain tops (bleeding hearts are taking the job) To Jesus (i'm sorry, i was wrong) Yeah your cowboys (i know it's getting dark) They'll be singing (hold hands, it's getting hard) On your mountain tops (bleeding hearts are taking the job) To Jesus (i'm sorry, i was wrong) This is the devil You're not alone You can steady your arrow keep em aimed on the throat When there's only so much that we can take Come on we'll take it So many broken boys wishing they could walk away Wishing they could walk it off
Lyrics:Live long, you thought this should be easier Ive gone so far without showing my teeth Im walking on a mist made of moodswings And you look better in blue To the ones weve lost even though theyre still breathing Theyre fight is done along with theyre minds Ive got my carry on, tell the pilot were leaving Weve been drinking to see this day through Im looking for you in the party pictures of the weekly rag Kicking myself knowing Ive kissed you when Im somebody elses man Dissolve to rot, they seem to be dreaming Not all of us know how to sleep Just keep your noses up, to hell Ill be singing We look better in blue
Lyrics:Locked in a snipers scope, caught in a war over nothing If its war you wanted, its just a coward youll get Wave goodbye out the drivers side window fund work in a coalmine Where its so easy to lie, when its to dark to look you in the eye The coalmine canaries will fly the wrong way Whos to tell me the air is not safe To breathe in while working, well leave it to faith This darkness builds comfort, so minors make way I was just staring at the hole in the fence The bulls on the highway, and my wife in a dress They cant keep me from breathing or offer me faith This darkness builds comfort so minors make way Make way Canary in a coalmine
Lyrics:I clenched my fist just for the novelty She talked astrology, with a jailed man Who now never sees the stars Stars they dont shine when all you do is sleep She fought for real things And I have favored the fake From head to toe I must look frightening Ive fallen out of trees When the wind has been shaking my city Clean up your mind you think disgustingly And I have favored the fake So drop your guard, go on and curse aloud I want you so goddamned badly, Im gonna tie you down You plan to leave this town But once they go in, they cant seem to find a way out
Lyrics:She walks mausoleums right beside him to please His obsession with death now that theyre dying He bought her a place next to celebrities with maids And a car they cant seem to keep from crashing He tells her hes running Tells her hes running For office So just stand there looking pretty Pretend that youve something to offer She walks mausoleums with lilacs and leaves them For strangers with her last name Theyve all died from diseases that sound just like shes feeling And all she can do now is wait Oh if you found another You called him your lover And he called you babe I wouldnt have any of it Id steal you right back from him And make him dig his own grave Id make him dig his own grave
Lyrics:Lord I oughta lose the gut I better can the car, and take the bus To a place where absolutely no body knows us Lord I hope this is just the rush Hold on, who the fuck am I talking to I just carry on like nothings up But Fremont street is turning baby Give me the razor We better be looking good before we head out of the river you said I had a fear of running give me the razor we better be looking good before we head out of the river you claim to have the fear of nothing Lord I hope this will get me off Another heart attack, and Im surely done With this running in place Though Ive almost made it To Fremont street Its turning baby Give the razor (He wasted everything he wanted to save) Steal me a long ride (Its kinda hard to watch a grown man cry) When whiskys in favor (I bet this was his first time) This Isnt my first time (At least hes easy on his mommas eyes)
